South Sulawesi has so many interesting thing to try and to go, such as
"Mallogo"
Is a traditional game of Sulawesi Selatan Mallogo is a traditional game and its quite popular game for kids and teenager in Sulawesi Selatan. To play Mallogo, you only need coconut shell and bamboo.
They usually play Mallogo after harvest and we play it in the rice field. It’s so easy to play Mallogo, because it’s similar to golf. The difference is the object you use. Golf are using ball but Mallogo are using a coconut shell. Mallogo name are taken from the important object of the play, which is “logo” and it shaped like an eye hoe. It shows our cultural values grounded in agrarian life, which is their identity.
There are some terms in Mallogo. Every term has a meaning, for example: MaLLio-lio, which means a chance to start the game in Mallogo. It’s a part of tradition because “Mallogo” has been passed from one generation to other generation. In the past “Mallogo” was also played by the noble there. The reason why I choose “Mallogo” is because Mallogo is one of our traditions that we have to preserve so it will not extinct.
"Paruki"
Is a traditional fabric of Sulawesi Selatan and it has a unique pattern. People there made the fabric by weaving. The pattern of Paruki shows our identity and culture, why? Because they have a different pattern that another culture don’t have.

Tana Toraja is also called by “The land of heavenly kings”
There, you can see their traditional house, which is “Tongkonan”. The house is not privately owned, but it’s hereditary.
Sculpture in Tana Toraja is very unique. They usually use it to decorate the “Tongkonan”. The sculpture is the symbol of life for people in Tana Toraja. You will see the culture also, because during the ceremony there will be people dancing and singing our traditional dance and song.
Tana Toraja tribes believe that death is not something that comes with a sudden but it’s a gradual process towards afterlife.
They need more than 1 day to do the Rambu Solo Ceremony. It usually takes 2-3 days. Rambu Solo is an important and it is not cheap, so the richer the family, it means the cost is higher.
They usually do “Buffalo Sacrifice”. Buffalo sacrifice is a part of the ceremony that showed their tradition. People in the past do that as a symbol of the death. “Buffalo Sacrifice” is when they kill the Buffalos. Not only buffalos, but they also kill pigs as their tradition. The family usually bought more than 1 buffalos and pigs to kill, but it also depends on the social status of the person or the family. The richer buy more buffalos. They believe that more buffalos means wealthier. There are some reason for people to do the “Buffalo Sacrifice” The reason is they believe that the buffalo’s soul will take the spirit of the deceased into the hereafter. Its also their beliefs and tradition. Another reason is, the family will donate the meat or give it to their neighbor.
Buffalo sacrifice shows cross culture between my culture and your culture because in your culture, you are not allowed to kill buffalos. But in my culture it’s okay because it’s a symbol of the death and it is also a tradition.
